Noise Modelling

At inacoustic, we go beyond simply measuring environmental noise and assessing noise levels. Our team of noise experts employ cutting-edge software like DataKustic CandaA and DGMR iNoise to create precise 3D noise mapping that allows us to investigate the potential noise impact of the most complex environmental noise sources, and to aid in the visualisation of how sound will impact upon sensitive receptors.

We pride ourselves on our ability to model everything from individual external plant items to major infrastructure networks, always with an eye towards developing the best possible noise mitigation strategies and acoustic design for our clients.

CadnaA (Computer-Aided Noise Abatement) Noise Modelling Software

inacoustic has integrated CadnaA noise modelling into our assessment methodology, meaning that our clients benefit from the insights produced by one of the world’s leading calculation, presentation, prediction and assessment programmes for environmental noise pollution

Unlike other modelling suites, CandaA can be efficiently used at any scale (from the modelling of noise impact at a handful of receivers to the complex handling of thousands of individual data points, noise sources and topographical changes), meaning that we can deliver superior technical reports with powerful 3D visualisation for roads, railways, aircraft, nationally significant projects, new towns and even entire urban areas.

The Advantages of Noise Modelling

Performing a calculation to predict the noise level at a specific location in space from a single source is possible by understanding the correct physics and completing the required calculations. However, evaluating the impact of many sources of noise on multiple receptors is a time-consuming process, and cannot account for elements such as an indirect path from the source to the receiver, complex terrain, diffraction or reflection from surfaces without the potential introduction of error.

Computational modelling offers a reliable means of precisely predicting and visualising complex environmental noise situations and provides non-specialist stakeholders, planners and regulators with easily digestible information upon which they can make important decisions about the future progression of a project, in line with agreed standards such as the Calculation of Road Traffic Noise (CRTN), the Calculation of Rail Noise (CRN), the calculation of construction noise with BS5228, the calculation of the impact of commercial or industrial noise with BS4142 and the calculation of noise at a residential façade in line with BS8233.

Acoustic Modelling for Internal Building Acoustics

In specialist spaces, like recording studios, cinemas, schools and hospitals, the end-user experience is largely dependent upon acoustic impressions such as speech intelligibility to ensure a suitably rewarding, enjoyable or informative experience.

As such, techniques such as 3D modelling and detailed calculation can also be employed internally to help achieve the most suitable internal acoustic environments for the end user.

At inacoustic, we can demonstrate how different internal acoustic strategies change the acoustic impression of internal space through modelling in software such as CadnaR, Odeon or CATT, giving our clients a cutting-edge insight into how their building will perform.
